The site's a bit empty now, but I'll add more stuff later. Right now, though, I'm going to sleep.

The good: I learned how to make games with the Unreal engine, got some friends to help me learn how to use Blender, and I pretty much passed game design class with flying colors. I also started buying the components so I can build my own computer (right now, I have the case, internal disk drive, monitor, mouse and keyboard; I'll buy everything else little by little).

The bad: I failed three out of four classes (though at least I left a good impression on two of the teachers), which will seriously affect my scores. Debts are also piling up and I can't find a job anywhere.

The plans: As soon as I finish the two drawings I owe, I'll have to (reluctantly) open up commissions. No color pics, though - I still take an eternity on those.

Every year, on this day celebrating the shortening of my life span, the events happening are always so different than the usual fare that they end up sticking out in front of the rest of the usual, boring days of the year (with the exception of Christmas and Three Kings Day (Puerto Rican holiday on the 6th of January, basically another Christmas day - do they celebrate it anywhere else, btw?)). Last year, when I still lived in college, it was a barrage of presents via mail and walking all over campus wondering how the hell some people knew my birthday even though they only knew me for about two months (and I'm usually really secretive on my first six months). The year before that involved me waking up to find myself on a table in a restaurant on a hotel getting served fine food while still on my school uniform on a school night with the two most unlikely companions ever (my little brother and his dad - we talk often, but never hang out like that).

This year, however, takes the prize for second-weirdest-feeling day (beaten only by the aforementioned restaurant). Why? Let me explain:

First, I wake up under a large amount of phone calls from my relatives calling to wish me a happy birthday and surprised I was still asleep at 1:00 PM (I was, too - I usually wake up at 11:30). I then check my bank account to find that someone deposited $500 on it. Next thing I know, I was doing a 30-minute walk back home at sunset carrying a brand-new PS3 in plain sight along with a used copy of Heavenly Sword (Disgaea 3 was sold out) while some guys on the nearby stoplight kept shouting "woo-hoo" at me complete with a thumbs up that made me feel even more awkward than I was already.

So...yeah.

Just took a break from playing it to write this journal (why I did, I don't know - I usually wait a few days first).

We'll see how long it lasts, but until then, I'm back.

Long story short: Alienware laptop's internal fan's busted, can't find replacement, might have to send back computer so I won't be getting it back for a few weeks, during which time I won't be able to finish the pics I saved there (including that comic page - goddammit, it was looking so good, too). Until that laptop returns, I'll be using my old one (which no longer runs Windows - it's now 100% Linux), which means no more drawings from me in a LONG time.

In other words, fuck you, Alienware, I'm building my own PC next time.

Guys, it's time to admit it: I distract easily. Instead of doing my college assignments, finishing my website or doing those two drawings I owe to two people (you know who you are, and I thank you for being so patient), I keep aimlessly browsing the web or playing video games (just bought Disgaea 2 for the PSP - so addictive that I played for ten hours straight without noticing and almost missed my midterm). Usually it's normal for me to procrastinate a little, but when I'm failing four out of five of my classes I have to draw the line.

In other words, I'm going to leave the internet world for a few weeks.

During that time, I'll be working on my college assignments, the two aforementioned drawings, my comic and a personal website. I'll also try to learn a bit of C# from scratch since it's part of one of my two majors (I'm studying for two degrees - one bachelor of arts for game art and design, one bachelor of science for game programming). During this time I won't be around to answer comments or such, so I apologize.

To the two people I owe the drawings to, once again I apologize for the delay and I promise to have them up soon.

To everyone else, I'm sorry for being such a lazy bastard. I'll start updating more often soon.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to learn how to use the Warcraft III game editor as well as Maya in order to finish a GAM112 assignment (the only class I'm doing well on).

Okay, while I like digital art, it always bores me to tears whenever I try to do one pic. I'm just too damn slow with all this "looking at the screen while drawing with a tablet on my lap while repeatedly switching tools in a monotonous cycle" thing I have to put up with. I even have a lot of WIPs that I never finished due to getting bored doing the flats, colors, lineart, whatever (a lot of those are on my blogger, btw - go there if you want to see some of the stuff I've been trying to work on). So basically, I almost ended up quitting drawing in general just because it was boring me.

However, while I was buying stuff for my new home, I went to a Borders Outlet and got me a new hardcover sketchbook (I love those). I tried sketching some stuff, and the next thing I know, I have to force myself away from it 'cause it's already midnight and I still haven't done the homework from the next day 'cause I spent too much time drawing. I wanted to post my best one, but I realized I don't have a place set up for my scanner yet and even if I had I would only be able to scan it in all it's glory if I rip it off from my brand-new sketchbook.

Ouch.

Worst part is, the quality of the paper in that thing is so good, I don't want to go back to my usual 11x14 rough-textured paper, let alone my tablet, so I doubt I'll be able to post anything soon...well, except for a crappy webcam screenshot of a page from my sketchbook (coming later today).

Hey, guys, I'm back with a new computer and a new apartment! I'll submit more stuff once I finish setting up this thing.

This Thursday I'll be moving to a new apartment with no internet, so until I make the arrangements for some cable, don't expect me to show up for a while.

However, before I leave, I want to make good use of my current Xbox Live subscription, so I'm challenging anyone interested to a few friendly rounds of BlazBlue. You guys have until Wednesday to play me.

Oh, and if you haven't bought BlazBlue, buy it. Great story (for a fighting game), awesome soundtrack, characters just as crazy as those of Guilty Gear (though sadly, no Bridget this time), and the online component is the smoothest one I've ever tried. Seriously, there's almost zero lag. Capcom could learn a thing or two from these guys. Limited edition comes with a soundtrack and a DVD with strategy videos on each character, so I recommend that one.

I'll be waiting.
