Aburrido de por vida - José M. Nieves

Finally, after an eight-hour flight, I made it to Arizona. And let me tell you, I DON'T like it. 'Course, this might be 'cause I just got here and I haven't seen everything about this place, but my first impression wasn't so good.
It all started in the airplane from San Juan to Dallas (had to transfer to Phoenix from there). I could tell the weird lady working the food cart was American, but something seemed off about her. Maybe it's me, but just in case, I gotta ask: Do all female airport personnel look like they have some kind of facial paralysis? Seriously, her eyes were completely black, like some kind of alien reject, and even when she was yelling at me 'cause of my huge handbag she kept an impossibly huge grin on her face that looked like something out of Ren & Stimpy. Oh, and that hairstyle? Let's just say, If I wasn't as sane as I am now, I would've screamed "HOLY SHIT, IT'S THE JOKER!!!!"
Hmmm, maybe I should draw her...nah.
Anyway, once I got here, I found one of the few good things about this place: Not as humid as Puerto Rico (92 degrees here feel cool when compared to 88 on PR, where the humidity makes you feel like you're in a microwave). However, those good news were quickly overshadowed by one little thing. Okay, I gotta make a statement here: If I see another "Vote for Obama" or "Vote for McCain" sign, I'm gonna frickin' blow my brains out.
Later, once I finished putting both of my 80-pound bags in my hotel room (thank God it was on the first floor), I went to the mall in front of it - Arizona Mills, I think it was called - and thankfully found two stores I loved: GameStop and Virgin. I checked 'em out, bought some stuff, but when I went to the Food Court, I realized something: (except for that place that serves smoothies,) the service STINKS. The people aren't kind, the food ain't that good... Okay, I have GOT to say this - what the hell happened to Burger King? Over in Puerto Rico, that place was excellent - especially the apple pie - but here, it's so bad that I can't come up with something HORRENDOUS enough to describe it (gimme some ideas, people!).
So after long afternoon in the toilet (told ya the food was horrible), I decide to write this here weblog (you know, to report back), when all of a sudden the lights go out and the internet with it, leaving me to experience the first lightning storm of my life. Now, back home, I had a somewhat irrational fear of lightning, but at least the mountains usually drove the lightning away, plus they blocked most of the wind so that no tornadoes form, so the island was basically immune to lightning storms. Here, though, I actually went to sleep praying to God I would wake up alive (and I usually NEVER pray). Seriously, this land is so flat that every house seems like the perfect bulls-eye for a lightning bolt, not to mention I have NEVER felt winds this strong in my entire life, not even during a hurricane. I touched the walls and realized the whole place was made of wood - unlike the brick-and-cement houses back home - making me wonder why the hell someone would build a house so...vulnerable to the elements. I have never been so scared in my life.
So anyway, long story short, my first day was a living hell, and now that I'm writing this on my second night here, I'm wondering - Will I actually be able to survive here for four more years?
Anyone who lives here and wants to offer me some tips, please, PLEASE do.

Just wanted you to know why I haven't been uploading anything for a while.
I've basically lived here in Puerto Rico all my life, so the idea of moving to a place I've never been to before is making me so nervous I haven't been able to draw a single thing (which is also why the drawing I promised ImpSyndrome is still lying around beside me unfinished - sorry, Imp!).
Now, for the reason I'm moving - I'm going to college to study game design, and I was looking for a university that was far enough for me to live without any family ties holding me back (don't ask). So I applied at UAT and got accepted (thankfully).
Heh, it's ironic, really - all my life I've been criticizing that goddamn nation, calling it "the root of all evil," and yet I still decide to join the long list of naive people who decide to go there to fulfill their dreams. Oy. (feel free to call me a hypocrite, folks)
Oh, well, gotta do what I gotta do. Let's just hope I don't end up regretting my choice.
Here's my photo, just in case you live there and want to lend a hand:
